Sunday 14th June saw me DJing in Guards Polo club members lounge after the prestigious Cartier Queens Cup Polo Final. One of the biggest polo tournaments in the world, this 22-goal competition attracts the world’s best players. Sponsored by Cartier since 2012, the finals day on Sunday 14 June offers a wonderful combination of fantastic sport and elegant hospitality. This year 12 impressive teams, including six 10-goalers, will be in action for three weeks in mid summer. HM The Queen first presented the trophy to the Club in 1960 and historically attends finals day to present the trophy to the winning patron. She is invariably joined in the Royal Box with leading names from stage, screen and sport, as well as some of the sport’s biggest names.
The Club is based at Smiths Lawn, in Windsor Great Park, which is thought to have been named after a game keeper at the time of the Restoration in the 17th century. The Club has ten polo pitches on 53 hectares (130 acres) and stables, paddocks and training facilities four miles away at Flemish Farm. The Queen and Prince Philip opened a new, purpose-built clubhouse and Royal box in front of a selection of club members at Smiths Lawn on Sunday 26 April 2009.
Playing a chilled set early on and gradually taking the tempo up as the drink flowed and the afternoon tea was taken by the 600 guests. Finishing early evening with some Funky tunes that had the whole club house on their feet.
From here it was off to Club 1 in Ascot for the After Party where the younger Polo crowd carried on partying till 03.00 Monday morning, as you can see from this video that was taken at 02.30 on Monday morning……
